A Water Security Plan to Enhance Resilience of Drinking Water Systems
Drinking water infrastructure represents the backbone of our modern society. Uninterrupted drinking water supply is necessary to maintain population health and for continuity of interconnected services. Therefore, drinking water systems must be appropriately protected against malicious attacks which might cause deliberate waterborne contamination, inducing service disruption with cascading effects.
The implementation of security measures to enhance resilience against hostile actions on the physical and cyber integrity of water infrastructure is essential and requires an appropriate planning process. In this regard, a Water Security Plan provides support to drinking water utilities with the information and tools they need to develop and implement in case of deliberate chemical/biological contamination to the drinking water supply system.
