As part of the European Commission support to the EU Member States in protecting public spaces against terrorist attacks by vehicle ramming, the JRC is developing guidance material and tools supporting informed decision-making by urban authorities and other local stakeholders, within the project portfolio 15 “Security and law enforcement” and in a close cooperation with the “Directorate General HOME”.
In this report, we present three generic vehicle models corresponding to the categories N2A, N3C and N3D as defined in the standard ISO 22343. These categories represent heavy vehicles from 7t to 12 maximum weight. All the three vehicle models are derived from the N2A & N3D generic vehicle model introduced in JRC135531.
The objective of the new models is to facilitate the disticntion between the three categories.
Like all the generic vehicle models published by the JRC, the new models are disseminated publicly under the open source public licence EUPL (EU Public Licence) and are intended for use by different stakeholders for simulations of vehicle impacts on security barriers.
The models are generic in the sense that they are brand independent and can represent most of vehicles of a given category. They have been tested following the standard verification procedures for road safety barriers and by simulating crash-tests.
