Monetary valuation of environmental impacts is crucial to enhance the relationship between green transitions and competitiveness. Assessing societal costs associated to environmental impacts promotes and enables fair comparisons among alternatives. Monetisation approaches can be coupled with environmental impacts resulting from life cycle assessment applied to products, to services etc.. In the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method recommended by the European Commission, ‘Normalization’ and ‘Weighting’ are mandatory steps within impact assessment, enhancing the interpretability of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) results. Adopting Monetary Valuation Coefficients (MVCs) during the Weighting stage enables the conversion of impacts into monetary terms, offering practical advantages. Expressing LCA results in monetary units could significantly ease their contextualization with the real economy, therefore facilitating decision making. The monetary valuations of LCA impacts supports the growing interest in integrating economic perspectives into environmental assessments.
This report complements the 2021 review by Amadei et al., which compiled MVCs for LCA impact categories aligned with the PEF. While the original study categorized MVCs by methodological approach and adjusted euro values for inflation to the reference year 2019, this report expands on that work by providing a dataset of underpinning unadjusted raw data from Amadei et al. (2021), enriched with recent MVCs retrieved from literature. The report also provides a publicly accessible permanent link to a website, which enables direct access to the dataset table and supports the integration of any future revisions to the MVC set.
