The Knowledge Centre on Earth Observation (KCEO) assessed the current and potential use of Earth Observation (EO) in support of EU policies related to urban climate adaptation
The Knowledge Centre on Earth Observation (KCEO) assessed the current and potential use of Earth Observation (EO) in support of EU policies related to urban climate adaptation in the Deep Dive assessment "Earth Observation in support of EU Policies for Urban Climate Adaptation".
This Policy Brief present and summaries the findings of the report together with the recommendations.
The highlights includes:
- The demand for Earth Observation (EO) to help address high and compound climate risks in urban areas is growing.
- The uptake of EO in urban climate adaptation remains significantly under-exploited due to an underdeveloped value chain, and products and indicator not being provided in an actionable format for non-technical users.
- Efforts are needed to bridge the gap between those responsible for climate adaptation assurance and those providing EO-based services.
- Key recommendations include developing policy-focused risk and out-come indicators, offering a greater range of combined risk and change detection services, and fostering city-based adaptation scenario capabilities
