Analysis of the EU Steel supply chain

Characterisation & use of EU steel scrap in relation to global trade dimensions
The EU exports around 20% of its collected ferrous scrap, mainly post-consumer material, making it the world’s top exporter. Improving scrap quality in coming years is essential to meet EU industrial needs in high-specification applications, as scrap plays a key role in enhancing resource efficiency. Monitoring trade flows can help anticipate potential scrap shortages. The impact of USA steel tariffs on scrap remains uncertain, with early signs of moderate effects on EU ferrous scrap leakage. In contrast, rising scrap-based steel production in China could have a more significant impact on global markets.
