As radiopharmaceuticals with Actinium-225 have undergone substantial growth in recent years, so has interest in the development of appropriate quality control methods. A key indicator of quality is the absence of non-radioactive metallic impurities, which can compete with Ac-225 for complexation during the radiolabelling process and thereby reduce the labelling efficiency. This parameter is particularly challenging to evaluate, as it depends strongly on several factors: the process by which Ac-225 precursor is obtained, the time elapsed between the actinium reconstitution in liquid form and labelling, and the purity and quality of the reagents used throughout these steps. Consequently, the source of Ac-225 should be carefully evaluated to ensure its suitability for attaining consistent product quality.
