The cross sections of the 100Mo(γ, n) and 59Co(γ, n) reactions have been measured using bremsstrahlung photons produced in the ELBE superconducting linear accelerator (HZDR, Germany). A methodology is presented, based on the deconvolution of the photon fluence in the samples and the use of Au foils as monitors for the determination of cross sections relative to the 197Au(γ, n) reaction. The bremsstrahlung photon end-point energies were in the range 8.5 - 18.5 MeV, and the activation yields were measured with off-line γ-spectrometry. The 99Mo and 58Co yields have been used to derive the respective photonuclear cross sections in the giant dipole resonance region, which have been described with the standard Lorentzian model. The results obtained have been compared to experimental datasets available in literature. Good agreement has been found, which validates the methodology and enables future measurements of photonuclear reactions at ELBE, with special interest in the 226Ra(γ, n)225Ra reaction.
