The Cities Mission collection provides supporting data for the EU Climate-neutral and smart Cities Mission.
EU Missions are meant to bring concrete solutions to some of our greatest challenges, with ambitious goals to deliver tangible results by 2030.
Cities play a pivotal role in achieving climate neutrality by 2050, the goal of the European Green Deal, and have to be supported in accelerating their green and digital transformation. The Horizon Europe Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities has two central objectives: to reach 100 climate neutral cities in the EU by 2030, and to ensure that it paves the way for all cities to be climate neutral by 2050.
The JRC delivers scientific and technical support throughout all phases of the Cities Mission. Its activities provide expanded data, robust methodologies and comprehensive analyses to accelerate the transition toward climate-neutrality in European cities, while also monitoring progress and assessing the overall impact of the Mission.
This collection will encompass:
- Data resulting from the assessment of Climate City Contracts of Mission Cities
- Data in support of local climate-action planning, including GHG emissions, GHG removals and selected activity data
- Data in support of scope 3 or consumption-based emissions accounting
- Data on and for cities that are not part of the Mission but are pursuing climate-neutral pathways.
