The 26th edition of the Transport and Pollution (TaP) conference was hosted for the first time by IFP Energies Nouvelles. In addition the scope of the conference has been extended from Air Pollution to all transport impacts (air, water, soil, noise). The title of the conference was adapted accordingly, moving from TAP (Transport Air Pollution) to TaP (Transport and Pollution). The proceedings summarise the main contributions presented during the 26th TaP conference in the form of extended abstracts. The characterization and analysis of gaseous and particulate emissions emitted by road vehicles, a historical subject of the conference, remains well represented (13 extended abstracts, one keynote, one roundtable), with a focus in this edition on real-world emissions and methods to prevent all forms of emissions beating. A reduction in communications related to exhaust emissions is also noted, reflecting regulatory developments, in favor of those concerning non-exhaust emissions (disc/brake pad and tire/road abrasion) in the road and rail sectors. The main emerging topics are the use of mobility data and measurements as decision-making tools (15 extended abstracts), as well as environmental and social life cycle analysis (10 extended abstracts). Regarding transportation domains, 10 contributions are dedicated to the maritime sector, and 6 to battery electric road vehicles. Rail is well represented, particularly within the French research community. Aviation was the least pronounced. . Advancing beyond criteria pollutants, greenhouse emissions, and solid or gaseous pollutants, noise pollution has emerged as an increasingly critical issue. It deserves to be holistically addressed alongside other health and environmental impacts air, water, and soil rather than being considered in isolation. Additionally, the transport sector's role in the formation of secondary aerosols is gaining attention as a pivotal topic. Advancing our understanding of the intricate links between primary emissions and air quality will be essential to developing effective strategies to mitigate these interconnected challenges. Despite the major progress that was achieved over the past decades in making European transport more sustainable, and decarbonized, there are still major steps to be made for achieving Europe’s environmental targets.
