GDO Analytical Report
Drought conditions have been stable and critical in most of central Europe.
Alert conditions persist in central-eastern and western Europe. Warning drought conditions remain generally stable and critical in Europe.
Scarce precipitation is the main driver of the current drought, with severe and prolonged deficit observed in eastern and central Europe. Key compounding factors have been the observed temperature anomalies, much warmer than average over central-western Europe, and the extreme sequence of heatwaves that has been affecting large areas of Europe since May.
Soil moisture and river flow are extensively far below normal. Heat and water stresses have been affecting vegetation and crops, industrial water supply and river transport. Impacts on crop yields are visible with satellite imagery and pronounced yield losses are expected.
In the next months, warmer and normal to slightly wetter conditions are predicted in most of Europe. A certain degree of uncertainty characterizes the current seasonal precipitation prediction
