R&I needs to reduce EU dependence and strengthen competitiveness
The Critical Raw Materials Act aims to strengthen the EU’s security of supply of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs). Substitution, material efficiency and circularity (repair, reuse and recycling) complement supply diversification. The Communication on Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership (Action 3) support the identification of Research and Innovation (R&I) needs to substitute CRMs with advanced materials. The analyses presented here, carried out by the Joint Research Centre, contribute to the knowledge base for the Advanced Materials Act, foreseen in 2026.
