Observation of a High Burnup Rim-Type Structure in an Advanced Plutonium-Uranium Carbide Fuel.
The observation is reported of a "rim-type" structure with small sub-grains in an advanced plutonium-uranium carbide fuel pin, which had been irradiated in the Dounreay Fast Reactor to a burn up of 8.3% FIMA. This type of structure has previously been reported in high burn-up LWR UO2 and MOX fuels.
