The European Soil Bureau has been created in 1996 as a new body within the European Commission.It is located at the JRC , Ispra , Italy , and it is part of the Agriculture System Unit of the Space Application Institute.Its aim is to carry out scientific and technological duties in order to harmonise soil Information relevant to Community policies,its relevant General Directorates, to the European Environment Agency and to concerned institutions of the Member States. In the frame of the activities of the ESB several soil databases have been compiled covering the EU Member States and bordering countries. These databases will be integrated in the future European Soil Information System ( EUSIS) that will allow for scale transfer between different coverage's at varying resolution.
