Synchroton radiation has already had an appreciable impact on studies of magnetism, from circular dichroism to magnetic EXAFS and resonant magnetic scattering in order to examine magnetic structures; and now comes a new aspect - using resonant X-ray scattering for the studies of surface magnetism. Two papers published simultaneously in PHISICAL REVIEW LETTERS (22 July 1996) reported early measurements in what will certainly be a growth area for the new high-intensity 3rd generation machines.
