In the field phases of the European Tracer Experiment(ETEX), an inert tracer was released. Several Constant Volume Balloons (CVBs) were also launched into different altitudes to indicate the initial tracer cloud paths. A model simulating the CVB behaviour in HIRLAM model forecasts is applied to ETEX data to investigate the coincidence of the CVBs computed trajectories and tracer cloud paths. Results from the CVB model are in fair agreement with CVBs measurements for the ETEX first release and in good agreement for the second one. The simulated CVBs predict very well the mean axis of the tracer cloud paths during the ETEX first release and failed earlier during the second one.
