The aim of the International Measurement Evaluation Programme IMEP is to give an objective picture of the State-of-the-Practice (SoP) of analytical measurements by comparing them to a reference value obtained by a primary method of measurement and which hence is as traceable to the SI system of measurements as can presently be achieved, and which in any case is dependent from a human or political decision. Thus a large scale field test is made to realise (international) comparability of measurements by providing them an independent metrologically established value.
