The Global Fire Product.
This article describes the production of the Global Fire Product from the 21 month series of daily Advanced Very High resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data which was collected by the IGBP-DIS 1 km AVHRR Global land project. The main spatial and temporal fire distributions are described. In addition the uses foreseen for the data in terms of atmospheric chemistry and land use discussed. the shortcomings of the dataset are also highlighted.
