Current Practices for Risk Zoning Around Nuclear Power Plants in Comparison to other Industry Sectors

This paper analyses the background and current status of the information basis leading to the definition of risk and emergency zones around Nuclear Power Plants in different countries in Europe and beyond. Different practices are analysed and cross-compared, both within the nuclear sector and versus other major hazardous industries. Finally, a set of recommendations is given in the areas of use of risk information for risk zoning purposes and comparative energy risk assessment.
