This article assesses recent global Information Society strategies and points out the different dynamics of developed and developing countries. It describes the outcomes of FISTE project reports and the IPTS session at the 2004 Krynica Economic Forum on "Future Outlook on the Information Society (?ICT production and ICT use in New Member States and Candidate Countries of the EU?) and questions lower level of Information Society indicators in new member states and candidate countries. Finally, policies for the development of Information Society in Turkey are suggested.
