Calibration of Neutron Collars for Fresh Fuel Element Verification

cover
IAEA inspectors perform all the measurements with neutron collars using the INCC acquisition software. The procedure is based on the application of the cross-reference calibration principle. This principle assumes that all the collars have the same behaviour and their calibration curves differ only on a multiplication factor. Therefore once a calibration curve has been established for a reference collar, this curve can be used for all the collars provided that suitable corrective factors are applied to take into account deviations from the reference conditions due to individual characteristics of the collar (efficiency, source strength) or of the assembly (U loading, burnable poisons, etc.). The scope of the project described in this paper is to use Monte Carlo calculations to analyse and improve the calibration of neutron collars used for the verification of fresh fuel elements.
