Effect of TiX(X=C,N,O) Assitives on Microstructure and Properties of Silicon Nitride Based ceramics
The influence of the addition of 4 wt % TiC, TiN or TiO2 to a Si3N4 matrix with 6 wt % Y2O3 sintering additive on elastic and damping behaviour at elevated temperatures was investigated with the impulse excitation technique. The results revealed that the small amount of inter-granular glass pockets is hardly influenced by the addition of the Ti-based additives. The internal friction curves above 1 300 °C reveal that the addition of TiN or TiO2 results in a lower viscosity of the amorphous phase promoting the alpha- to beta-Si3N4 conversion during solution-reprecipitation when compared to the TiC-added or pristine matrix material.
