Marking the European Eel with Oxytetracycline, Alizarin Red and Coded Wire Tags: an Evaluation of Methods
After one week, the mortality of European eel Anguilla anguilla after marking glass eels with oxytetracycline (OTC), alizarin red (ALC) and farm eels with coded wire tags (CWTs) was 0% within all treatments. The suitability of implanting CWTs in the nose region (tag loss 94% after one week) and in the dorsal musculature (tag loss 4% after one week) was also examined.
