An internal case study has been conducted at JRC's Institute for Energy in Petten with the aim of gaining experience on applying formal expert judgement process in the field of structural reliability. In the case study, four internal experts were asked to make a probabilistic assessment of the time to failure of an initial crack in the steam penetration weld oa hypothetical operating reactor. The experience obtained from the case study is intended to serve as a basis for proposing guidelines for expert judgement appliations in the field of structural integrity. This paper describes the case study and lessons learnt.
