The GOTM Modelling System
One-dimensional water column models. which simulate physical and biogeochemical processes along a vertical axis, are very popular in the ocean modelling community. One major advantage over fully three-dimensional ocean models is they are much less complex and the computational time needed for executing a simulation is only fractions of the time needed by a three-dimensional model. Futhermore, lateral boundary conditions are not needed.
