Dissipation Measurement: Theory
The dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy is a key parameter to quantify the level of turbulence and the resulting mixing processes in natural waters. Based on viscous dissipation rate measurements, vertical diffusion coefficients and flux rates as well as friction velocities can be determined. This chapter describes the theory of the dissipation measurements.
