Solar Resource Modelling for Energy Applications
Geographical ingormation system (GIS) plays is an important tool for data integration and modelling. combination of solar radiation with digital elevation models (DEM) and other geographical data in GIS provides opportunities for technical and socio-economic analyses for decision-makers and professionals. The availability of high-resolution DEMs opens new horizons for research in mountainous environments where the spatial pattern of solar radiation fields is complex and dynamic. This monograph chapter outlines the basic principles of the solar radiation modelling within GIS with an emphasis to the role of DEM.
