Applicability of low pressure microwave discharges for the de-pyrogenization of heat sensitive materials has been tested. It has been found that discharges in selected gas mixtures are capable to reduce significantly the amount of deposited pyrogens within 1 minute of plasma treatment. Moreover it has been demonstrated that de-pyrogenization is due to the plasma interactions with pyrogens and cannot be ascribed to the action of possible side effects.
