Advances in POLINSAR Retrieval Algorithms of Agricultural Crops
Polarimetric SAR Interferometry has been recently applied to the retrieval of parameters from agricultural crops. The estimation procedure is based on the assumption of the socalled Oriented Volume over Ground model for the scene. Unfortunately, this model leads to a nonlinear formulation that must
be inverted. In addition, the inverse problem is indeterminate, since there are more unknowns than input data. In this paper, two strategies used to solve this problem are described. The first one is based on a combination of a geometrical approach (a line
fit on the complex plane) and a subsequent numerical method implemented with a genetic algorithm. The second technique extends the observation space by using data from two different baselines. The discussion about these methods is illustrated with
indoor data from corn and rice crops.
