Problems around Soil and Waste III - The H-14 Criterion and (Bio)analytical Approaches for Ecotoxicological Waste Characterization

The objective of the workshop was to establish a broadly accepted test battery for an ecotoxicological characterization of waste and to develop a test strategy for eluate and solid phase waste testing based on the technical and scientific experience of biological test systems for waste in the European Member States. It aims to the methodological implementation of the criterion H14 (ecotoxic) of the Directive 91/689/EEC on Hazardous Waste. The Workshop was organised jointly by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the German Federal Environmental Agency and attracted some 50 participants from the whole EU.
