Certification of a 41Ca Dose Material for Use in Human Studies (IRMM-3703) and a Corresponding Set of Isotope Reference Materials for 41Ca Measurements (IRMM-3701)
The radioisotope 41Ca is a promising new tool in bone research. After labelling with 41Ca, changes in bone metabolism can be identified via changes in urine n(41Ca)/n(40Ca) ratio. A 41Ca dose material (IRMM-3703) was produced by IRMM within the OSTEODIET project. IRMM-3703 was certified for isotopic composition and amount content by isotope dilution mass spectrometry. The certified n(41Ca)/n(40Ca) ratio is 0.012789 (58). A set of synthetic mixtures, IRMM-3701, to be used as calibrants for 41Ca analysis by accelerator mass spectrometry and resonance ionisation mass spectrometry was prepared by gravimetric mixing of IRMM-3703 and a Ca solution of natural isotopic composition and covers n(41Ca)/n(40Ca) ratios of 1.0114(68).10-6 to 1.0524(71).10-13.
