Self Assessment at the JRC Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen

In the framework of the corporate development initiatives of the European Commission - Joint Research Centre aimed at promoting a performance based quality management culture at all levels of the organisation, the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen has been engaged in the conduction of Self-Assessment exercises using as reference the Excellence Model of the European Foundation for Quality Management. This paper summarizes the accrued experience from three successive exercises carried out on a biennial basis. Salient results with specific reference to the applicability of a workshop- based and perception-driven self-assessment methodology in the relevant institutional research context are reviewed.
