The Multi-scale European Soil Information System (MEUSIS) concept was launched in the context of the MOSES action (Monitoring the State of European Soil) of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. According to its concept, MEUSIS is designed to meet the following requirements:
- To accelerate the progress of harmonisation of Soil Information
- To facilitate the update of existing soil information.
- To provide enough reliable information for assessing Soil conditions at different levels of detail.
- To provide a structure so that coherent and complementary data, available at a nested set of geographical scales, can fit together.
-To be integrated into more comprehensive and multi layer monitoring and reporting principles like the INSPIRE priciples.
