Photovoltaics is one of the fastest growing industries world-wide, but critics claim that this is only due to massive state subsidies and they call for a liberalised market and the removal of support measures for Photovoltaics. Is this a treat or a precondition for the development of Photovoltaics? This paper analyses the economic frame conditions and mentions market distortions which are present in the energy and electricity markets. To make this analysis, a non-linear model is used, which is capable of showing the effects on the generation portfolio through simultaneous changes in financial markets and technological development.
