Security of Electronic Passports
Electronic passports look like traditional passports. The difference is in
an additional chip that is able to store several kilobytes of data.
The article first focuses on the technology used (iso 14443 compatible
contactless smartcards) and then discusses the security features of the
electronic passports. The usual categorisation - Confidentiality, Integrity
and Availability is used. Basic Access Control (including a detailed analysis
of the entropy of the data used to derive the keys) and Active Authentication
is described in more details.
