Particle Tracking in a Symmetric Shear Flow
In a Lagrangian description of particle transport the particle equations of motion are numerically solved. When particle diffusion is modelled the associated random force renders the numerical solutions complex. It is, thus, desirable to compare numerical schemes used in stochastic particle-tracking simulations. Numerical results are also compared to analytical calculations of average particle properties for diffusing inertial particles in a 2-d symmetric shear flow, i.e., in a plane flow of an inviscid, incompressible fluid close to a stagnation point.
