A Geo-Portal for Data Management and Integration in the Context of the Additional Protocol
Since the entry into force of the Additional Protocol, nuclear safeguards is faced with an abundance of information from different sources which require effective tools for the collection, storage, analysis and retrieval of data. Over the last years, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) has developed a number of tools supporting the preparation, management and verification of AP declarations, which were demonstrating the usefulness of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for this purpose. Following these experiences, DG-TREN has asked the JRC to develop a Geo-Portal integrating the diverse databases at DG-TREN and providing a single point of access to all safeguards-relevant information. Based on the same platform, NUMAS was developed with the objective of integrating information from various sources in view making available information on Nuclear Fuel Cycle. The article describes the objectives and the features of both systems.
