Harmonised Pan-European Hydrological and Meteorological (Meta-)Data to Support Flood Studies
There is currently no operational system providing sufficient historic and near real-time meteorlogical and river gauging data at a European scale. To improve the European Flood Alert System further meteorological and hydrological data need to be made available on European scale. These data are necessary to maximise the system’s performance and increase preparedness for floods in Europe. Therefore the JRC has launched two projects, the EU-FLOOD-GIS (conducted by the UK based company Atkins) and the ETN-R (conducted by the Global Runoff Data Centre - GRDC) in support of EFAS and related research projects including adaptation studies of climate change for floods and droughts. This paper discusses the achievements of both data initiatives.
