Erythemal Monthly Radiation Maps over Europe by Spatial Interpolation of Station Data
The paper presents a technique to generate European maps of the monthly averaged erythemal dailydose from data known only at a number of stations. The method is based on spatial correlation coefficients and climatological averages drawn from a data set of satellite derived erythemal daily dose maps from 1984. It has been tested by simulating the measurements at 87 locations in an area extending from 10W to 30E and 34 to 74 N. The values obtained by spatial interpolation and those originally derived from satellite data are typically within ±10% for ~90% of the pixels.
