Marco Regulatorio Europeo en Alimentos, Semillas y Piensos Modificados Genéticamente

cover
The lecture will provide an overview of the legislative framework currently in place in the European Union and detailed information of the specific requirements for the approval, importation, cultivation and use of GMOs or products derived thereof for food or feed use. The use of genetically modified organisms, their release into the environment, cultivation, importation and, particularly, their utilization as food or food ingredients, is regulated in the EU by a set of strict procedures: Directive 2001/18/EC, which is the horizontal legal instrument dealing with the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms, Regulation (EC) 1829/2003 on 'genetically modified food and feed' and Regulation (EC) 1830/2003 dealing with 'Traceability and Labeling'. Detailed information on the requirements for the applicants, including the submission of a full dossier and of an "event specific" detection method will be provided to facilitate the understanding of the global frame and as introduction to the role of the JRC and of the CRL for Food and Feed, topic covered in details in separated lecture.
