Tecnicas de Deteccion y Cuantificacion de Organismos Geneticamente Modificados en la Union Europea

The lecture will present the role of the JRC, in particular of the Biotechnology and GMOs Unit, in the implementation of European legislation on GMOs; the different responsibilities and activities currently ongoing in response to the various legislative contexts: Information systems in support to Directive 2001/18/EC, including WebSNIF and GMOREGEX, and according to Reg. (EC) 1946/2003 and the BCH of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The lecture will give particular reference to the role and responsibilities of the Community Reference Laboratory for GM Food and Feed in the context of Regulation (EC) 1829/2003. It will also provide on overview of the scientific research being carried on in the context of GMO analysis, molecular characterization and post market monitoring. Training activities and sources of additional information though the different websites will be illustrated.
