MEUSIS - Multi-Scale European Soil Database
The INSPIRE initiative (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) has embarked on a common framework for spatial data in the EU.
One of the INSPIRE ideas is to conduct reporting and analysis of environmental information on the basis of a harmonized and hierarchical
system of grids (or rasters) with a common point of origin and a standardized location and size of grid cells. This system could constitute
a suitable framework for the building of a nested system of soil data and could facilitate interoperability through a common coordinate
reference system, a unique grid coding system,a set of detailed and standardized metadata and an exchangeable and open format.
