Magnetic and Related Properties of AnPd2Sn (An=Th, U,NP,PU ) System
We have studied four compounds, ThPd2Sn, UPd2Sn, NpPd2Sn and PuPd2Sn, crystallizing with an orthorhombic crystal structure
within the Pnma space group. While UPd2Sn is a paramagnet, the ternaries NpPd2Sn and PuPd2Sn order antiferromagnetically at
TN ¼ 15 and 11 K, respectively. All three compounds exhibit features characteristic of systems with strong electronic correlations, like
large negative paramagnetic Curie temperatures, negative logarithmic slopes of the magnetic contribution to the resistivity and strongly
enhanced low-temperature electronic specific heat. It seems probable that NpPd2Sn and PuPd2Sn are rare representatives of heavyfermion systems amidst Np- and Pu-based intermetallics.
