Abstract: The paper summarizes the results of research studies and discussions on the use of PSA to evaluate the SSC ageing effect on overall plant safety carried out within the framework of the ECJRC Ageing PSA Network. In particular, statistical methods and approaches to identify and model ageing effects on safety component reliability using operating experience data are presented. The possible impact of agerelated degradation on the component reliability and on the plant risk profile is demonstrated using the PWR Large LOCA PSA model as an example. Practical insights, recommendations and limitations are also discussed. Key Words: ageing effects, Probabilistic Safety Assessment, timedependent reliability model.
