An Overview of Market, Institutional, and Social Drivers and Barriers for Content in the Mobile Platform
The analysis summarized in this paper identifies essential economic, competitive, technological and social forces that are currently shaping (and will continue to shape, in the short to medium-term) the mobile content sector. These forces are shown as drivers and barriers to the success of the diverse segments that make up the mobile content domain. Mobile content is presented in this paper as a heterogeneous and fragmented digital ecosystem where a complex topology of activities takes place. These activities are grouped in different techno-economic models that try to respond to the demands of potential users. Using this theoretical approach, the paper classifies and introduces drivers and barriers as market-related, social and institutional. The overall conclusion is that, although we are probably on the verge of a mobile content explosion, there are still a number of bottlenecks that could affect its potential success
