dc.description.abstractTHE SOLUTION HEAT TREATMENT OF CU-CR-ZR ALLOY WAS EXAMINED. THE ALLOY WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN PRECIPITATES RICH IN CR AND PRECIPITATES RICH IN CR-ZR-P. SOME OF THE PRECIPITATES WERE IN THE FORM OF "STRINGERS". SOLUTION HEAT TREATMENT AT 1000 DEGREES OR 1050 DEGREES FOR PERIODS UP TO 24 HR RESULTED IN FEW, IF ANY, OF THE PRECIPITATES GOING INTO SOLUTION. THIS WAS THOUGHT TO BE DUE TO THE RELATIVELY COARSE NATURE OF THE PRECIPITATES. COLD ROLLING THE "AS-RECEIVED" ALLOY PRIOR TO SOLUTION HEAT TREATMENT PROMOTED THE SOLUTION OF THE PRECIPITATES, POSSIBLY BY BREAKING UP PARTICLES AND BY DEFORMING THEM. GRAIN GROWTH ALSO OCCURRED.en_GB
