Helping to Locate Slums Using Earth Observation and Geoinformation Technologies
Earth Observation and geoinformation technologies can provide crucial information to characterize and identify slums. Satellite based remote sensing provides synoptic overviews over settlements and cities and thus an opportunity to locate slum areas. This can be of use to improve census and field surveys. The satellite images can also provide a description and identification of the physical structure of housing and housing pattern, which may be indicators for slum conditions.
