Accuracy, Objectivity and Efficiency of Remote Sensing for Agricultural Statistics
Abstract. This paper reviews the current status of the use of satellite images for crop area and yield estimation, focusing on the distinction between approaches that can be considered operational and topics that can be considered as research subjects, partly following a reference best practices document of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). The possible subjectivity of the results coming from certain approaches is highlighted.
