Abstract: | Emissions of long lived greenhouse gases up to present day are estimated to commit the Earth to a 2.4 oC warming, but almost 50% of this is being masked by short-lived anthropogenic aerosols (e.g. Ramanathan and Feng, 2008). Knowingly or unknowingly, policy makers have relied on the overall cooling effect of air pollutants to forestall the onset of dangerous climate change (IPCC, 2007). |
