TRACE ELEMENT ANALYSIS NEEDS ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES MORE AND MORE SENSITIVE AND ACCURATE. MASS SPECTROMETRY FULFILLS THESE PREREQUISITES AND NOW FINDS A WIDER USE IN THE DETERMINATION OF METALS IN BIOLOGICAL MATRICES. THE TWO IONISATION TECHNIQUES CONSIDERED AS THE MOST RELIABLE I.E. THE ISOTOPE DILUTION MASS SPECTROMETRY, A TECHNIQUE THAT ALLOWS ACCURATE QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATIONS OF ELEMENTS, IS ALSO DESCRIBED.
