THE MATERIALS REQUIREMENTS FOR FUTURE FUSION DEVICES DEPEND STRONGLY ON THEIR OBJECTIVE AND OPERATION CONDITIONS. THE PROBLEMS WHICH HAVE TO BE SOLVED FOR EACH STEP, THEREFORE, CHANGE WITH THE PROGRESS OF THESE MACHINES. SOME PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS FOR AN EARLY DEVICE MAY BE WITHOUT SIGNIFICANCE FOR LATER MACHINES, WHILE OTHER PROBLEMS EXIST IN ALL DEVICES AND MAY BECOME MORE DIFFICULT THE MORE FUSION IS ADVANCING. THE CHALLENGE FOR MATERIALS SCIENCE IS TO ADOPT ITS WORK AND TO FIND SOLUTIONS CONSTANTLY CHANGING REQUIREMENTS.
